THE QUEER IS NOT FOR SALE
Exploring the ethics of selling trauma in a capitalist literary world
Sunday 19 February 2023
Sound Lounge, Seymour Centre
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
The Queer is Not for Sale will look into the dilemma many queer writers face in deciding how much of themselves, and in particular their trauma or distress, they are willing to reveal. It will focus on works that are ‘authentic’ and ‘vulnerable’ in their excavation of the self, and will explore the tension between authenticity and capitalism and the complex relationship between writers and publishers on the commodification of self.
Featuring Kaya Wilson, Gloria Demillo, Holden Sheppard, Jason Om & Anthony Venn-Brown OAM
<SKULL EMOJI>
The nihilistic sensibilities of Gen Z on queer young adult writing
Sunday 19 February 2023
Sound Lounge, Seymour Centre
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
<skull emoji> will be humorous and insightful dialogue into the dichotomous psyche of the queer Gen Z. The session will be a unique opportunity to hear from young adult queer writers about how their lived experiences, hopes and anxieties of an increasingly online and uncertain future, shape their sensibilities and their work. It will also look at how they find authenticity in the mundane and grapple with catastrophe by turning to fantasy and the absurd.
Featuring Michael Sun, Imbi, Gary Lonesborough, Laneikka Denne & Adrian Mouhajer
